Community Sustainable Living Fund

Denmark Community Windfarm Inc. operates the Community Sustainable Living Fund

DCW Inc. is a community group that holds 10% of the shares in Denmark Community Windfarm Ltd on behalf of the Denmark community. As determined by its constitution, it looks to use Denmark windfarm’s dividends from this shareholding to encourage and fund other community sustainable enterprises in Denmark, particularly energy related projects.

The DCW Inc. Management Committee has formed the Community Sustainable Living Fund (CSL Fund) to meet this aim.

To-date, $90,000 has been forthcoming in DCW Inc.s dividends towards the Fund, to support potentially sustainable business initiatives, whether profit or non-profit.

Donald Clarke, the Management Committee and the Fund chair, describes the fund’s vision “For a Shire of Denmark renown for Sustainable Community Enterprises, particularly as a showcase for Sustainable Energy contributing to a Community of Sustainable Living”

“We aspire to this vision”, he goes on, “through fostering and funding to support and develop Sustainable Community Enterprise (SCE) Projects.” It is planned that this may involve pro-bono review of early concepts for SCE Projects, critique of draft proposals for funding, and assessment of funding applications with feedback if unsuccessful.

The fund will contribute to SCE Projects, particularly Sustainable Energy within Denmark and the south coast region of WA, by DCW Inc. itself or in concert with government and/or private enterprise.

The Fund may provide fostering, critique and/or funding to developing a SCE, for profit or non-profit; conducting research programs and feasibility studies aimed at achieving greater knowledge of the factors influential in affecting SCE Projects; encouraging cooperation and coordination between agencies whenever it is important to the cause of greater awareness of Sustainable Energy, Energy Descent and SCE Projects; and related activities.

Enterprise initiative can approach the committee at any time, potential progressing through a series of steps as negotiated between the proposer and the fund committee.

Initial approach is through email to the Fund Chair. A one page synopsis of the concept proposal is initially required, to be circulated to the committee. Encouragement may then be provided to enlarge on the initiative. Following critique of the more detailed proposal, a revised proposal would be considered for funding, or recommendations made for alternative funding or reconsideration of concept.

No specific format would be required for submissions, and initiatives may be proposed at any time. It is recognised that by their very nature, success of proposals cannot be guaranteed and that this risk is accepted by the Fund. Only funding applications requesting funding greater than $6000 will currently be considered.
